The Spiral Wound Gasket is a highly versatile sealing solution known for its robust mechanical strength and ability to recover its shape. It combines a V-shaped metallic winding with a softer filler material to create an effective seal across various applications. The sealing element is formed by spirally winding a metallic strip and including a flexible filler material, typically Graphite, PTFE or specially designed high-temperature materials. This construction ensures a reliable seal even under changing temperatures and pressures. Additionally, the gasket can be configured with outer and inner rings.
We offer a variety of spiral wound gaskets in sizes ranging from 15NB to 600NB, compatible with ANSI standards such as 150, 300, 600, and 900, as well as PN standards including 10, 16, 25, and 40.
There are three main types:
Type CG:
> Comprises a metallic winding and soft filler, with only an outer ring included.
> General purpose gasket suitable for flat face and raised face flanges up to Class 2500
> Centering ring accurately locates the gasket on the flange face, provides additional radial strength and acts as a compression limiter
> Spiral winding (sealing element) consists of pre-formed metal and soft filler material
Type CGIR:
> Features a metallic winding and soft filler, along with both inner and outer rings.
> Suitable for flat face and raised face flanges up to Class 2500
> Recommended for higher pressure applications, for use with PTFE fillers
> Inner ring acts as a compression limiter and protects sealing elements from process media attack
Type R:
> Consists of only a metallic winding and soft filler, without solid inner or outer rings.
> Suitable for tongue and groove, male–female, or groove–to–flat face flanges
> Spiral winding only, containing preformed metal and soft filler material
> Inner and outer diameters of winding are reinforced with several piles of metal without filler to give greater stability
SELECTING THE CORRECT FILLER MATERIAL:
Graphite: Used widely for steam, water and other basic applications.
PTFE: For use with potent chemical applications, food and dairy applications.
Mica: Suited to high temperature applications.
